Each local Citizens Advice is a registered charity with its own board of trustees who are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation as a team.

This includes setting strategic direction, ensuring that resources are used appropriately and effectively, making sure the charity is fulfilling its purpose and ensuring compliance with the relevant laws and regulations.

You don’t need specific qualifications or experience to be a trustee. For example, you may be one of the following:

  • Retired and looking to do something meaningful with your time, or
  • Working full or part time and looking to ‘put something back,’ or
  • Working flexibly that allows you to volunteer at times to suit you, or
  • Actively seeking work because you feel you have something to offer
  • Seeking leadership experience that is not readily available to you at work eg get a taste of being a non exec director

Everything you need to know about becoming a trustee and how to apply can be found in our Trustee Application Pack which you can download below.

Further guidance on the general responsibilities of trustees can be found here.
